How to sew a round pillow

Adding throw pillows is a simple way to upgrade the decor and add a pop of color into a room. If you have some seamstress skill you know it’s such an easy sewing project to make.

It took me 30 minutes to sew one of these round pillows. I confess that I’m a “pillowoholic” but I have some good reasons to add more to the living room.

I want to use some of these round cushions in the Acapulco chairs to make them more comfortable, and also want them as floor cushions.

My kids love to play on the floor, so a few colorful pillows will be fun to use and make company to the llama cushion. It’s why I added a handle so they can easily carry them around…and maybe put them back in place (let me dream). The handle is also helpful is you want to keep your floor cushions out of the way, you can hang them by it wherever you want. I may add some wall hooks in the playroom to store them.

Agregar cojines es una forma sencilla de mejorar la decoración y agregar un toque de color en una habitación. Si tienes algunas habilidades de costura, sabes que es un proyecto de costura muy fácil.

Me tomó 30 minutos coser una de estas almohadas redondas. Confieso que soy una “almohadicta” pero tengo buenas razones para agregar más en la sala de estar.

Quiero usar algunos de estos cojines en las sillas Acapulco para hacerlas más cómodas, y también quiero usarlos como cojines para el piso.

A mis hijos les encanta jugar tirados en el piso, por lo que será divertido usar algunos cojines de colores. Agregué un asa para que puedan llevarlos fácilmente … y tal vez volver a colocarlos en su lugar (déjame soñar). El asa también es útil si desea guardar los cojines de piso fuera del camino, puedes usar lo para colgarlos donde quieras. Estoy pensando agregar algunos ganchos en la pared en la sala de juegos para almacenarlos.

How to sew a round pillow

Supplies you will need:

Two tones of fabric
matching thread
A piece of faux leather
A fabric pen
A ruler
A pair of scissors
A mini sewing machine or a regular one
Some cushion filling
A needle

Material que necesitarás:

Dos tonos de tela.

Let start by making the pillow handle. Cut a rectangle of 3 X 10 inches in the faux leather fabric.

Fold each edge of the rectangle longwise, right side out. The flaps need to cover each other on about 1/4 inch. Hold the fold with clips or small clothespins.

When you work with faux leather, vinyl or oilcloth pins will make small permanent holes in the fabric, so when possible it’s better to use clips instead of pins.

Make a seam in the center of the handle to hold the flaps together. My faux leather fabric was a little slippery, so it works better making the stitches at a low speed.

Vamos a empezar haciendo el asa del cojin. Cortas un rectángulo de 8 x 25 cm en la tela de piel sintética.

Doblas cada borde del rectángulo en lo largo, con el lado correcto hacia afuera. Las aletas deben cubrirse entre sí sobre aproximadamente 1/2 cm. Sostengas el pliegue con clips o pinzas pequeñas.

Cuando trabajas con piel sintética o vinil los alfileres harán pequeños orificios permanentes en la tela, por lo que, cuando sea posible, es mejor utilizar clips en lugar de alfileres.

Haz una costura en el centro del asa para mantener las aletas juntas. Mi tela sintética era un poco resbaladiza, por lo que funcionó mejor hacer los puntos a baja velocidad.

Keep the handle on the side, and start cutting the fabric to make the pillow. If you plan using your circle pillow on the floor, I suggest you choose a tick or medium tick fabric (one of the curtains works great) so your cushion will last longer.

Make your pattern by drawing a circle of 11 inches radius on a piece of paper. Cut out your paper circle and report the shape two times on the fabric. You can use different fabric patterns or colors for the top and bottom if you like too.

Guardas el asa a un lado y comienzas a cortar la tela para hacer la almohada. Si planeas usar tu cojín en el suelo, te sugiero que elijas una tela un poco gruesa (las para cortinas funcionan bien) para que tu almohada dure más tiempo.

Haz tu patrón dibujando un círculo de 28 cm de radio en una hoja de papel. Recorta el círculo de papel e contornea la forma dos veces sobre la tela. Si lo deseas, puedes usar diferentes diseños o colores de tela para la parte superior e inferior del cojín.

Place your bottom fabric on a flat surface, right side facing up, and place the handle next to the circle edge. Fold both ends of the handle and pin them with the fabric.

Coloques la tela inferior sobre una superficie plana, con el lado correcto hacia arriba, y pones el asa a un lado del borde del círculo. Dobla ambos extremos del asa y fíjalos con alfileres en la tela.

Place your top fabric upon the bottom one, right side facing down. Pin all along the edge and sew leaving an unsewn gap of 5 inches.

Coloques la tela superior sobre la tela inferior, con el lado correcto hacia abajo. Pones alfileres a lo largo del borde y puedes coser dejando una apertura sin costuras de 12cm.

Take the pins off, and make notches of around the circle. Be careful not to cut into the seam. Making notches will give your pillow the nice round shape you are looking for.

Once you are done, turn the cover right side out and iron, insist on the edge to flatten the seam.

Quítas los alfileres y haz muescas alrededor del círculo. Tengas cuidado de no cortar la costura. Hacer muescas le dará a tu almohada la bonita forma redonda que estás buscando.

Una vez que hayas terminado, gire la cubierta para tener el lado correcto hacia afuera y planche, insista en el borde para aplanar la costura.

Fill the pillow with filling. I always add a little more because it flattens after a few weeks of use and I like to have well padded cushions.

Pin the opening, folding the fabric edges inside and close with a few invisible stitches.
