Transforming Toilet Paper Rolls into Gift Boxes
The first step to create our Christmas DIY advent calendar is to prepare our little gift boxes. These will hold small treats or messages for each day of Advent.

Materials:
- Toilet Paper rolls (24)
- Scissor
- Ruler
- Glue or tape
- Paint
- Paper
- Markers or stickers numbers
- Gift wrap ribbon
Instructions:
- Paint: Cover each roll with acrylic paint in festive colors. You
can get creative with glitter or stamps! - Flatten the Rolls: Gently flatten each toilet paper roll.
- Create the Box: Cut 4 notches of 1.5cm on the bottom of the
paper roll and fold each flap in. You can secure with glue or
tape. - Fill ’em up: Add your small treats or messages into each gift
box. - Close the box: Again, cut 4 noches around the open edge of
the paper roll, fold the flap in, and secure. - Add a ribbon: Wrap the gifts with a ribbon or twine.
- Numbering: Add a paper tag with a number or use stickers to
number each box from 1 to 24.

An advent calendar can be filled with a mix of small surprises that bring joy to both kids and adults.
You could include treats like chocolates, candy canes, or mini cookies, along with fun trinkets such as stickers, keychains, or tiny ornaments.
Adults might enjoy small self-care items such as lip balm, tea bags, or scratch-off lottery tickets, while kids could find delight in small toys, puzzle pieces, or LEGO figurines.
Mixing edible treats, thoughtful notes, and little keepsakes makes each day leading up to Christmas feel special and full of anticipation.

Building the Cardboard Christmas Tree
Now that our little gift boxes are ready, let’s construct the Christmas tree that will hold our advent
surprises!
Materials:
- Large piece of cardbaord

Instructions:
- Draw the Tree: On the cardboard, draw a large Christmas tree shape. You can find templates online or create your own design. The dimensions are 24 cm for the base and 36 cm for the height.
- Cut it Out: Carefully cut out the tree shape using scissors or a craft knife.
- Repeat: Use the first cardboard tree shape as a template to cut out a second identical Christmas tree.
- Notches: Using a craft knife, make notches on both cardboard tree. In the first piece, cut one notch from the top to the center. In the second piece, cut one notch from the bottom to the center.
- Decorate the Tree: Use a white paint marker to draw braches and decorations on the cardboard trees. You can also paint the tree green or add glitter, stickers, or other embellishments to make it sparkle!
- Build the tree: Slide the two cardboard trees into each other and glue them on a cardboard circle base.
- Cover the edges: To give the cardboard Christmas tree a nice finish, glue rope along all the edges. This step is optional.
- Display the Boxes: Place the toilet paper roll gift boxes around the bottom of the tree. Pleasingly arrange them
