Do you want to sit on a cactus??? NO? You may change your mind after this funny DIY! Some make mushrooms seat…but it’s been more than 7 years that I’m living in the middle of the Mexican desert so I made a cactus stool!
Don’t you think it’s a funny stool to make for kiddos? I love how it turns out. So If you want to make one, just follow the instructions below.
How to make a DIY Cactus stool
The materials you will need to make your stool:
- Green fabric
- A big plastic planter
- Cushion foam
- A sewing machine,
- Felt to make the flowers
- Embroidery thread
You need to make a BIG cushion how will fit into the planter. I used a plastic planter which dimensions are 13′ high and 15′ diameter. You cut six pieces of fabric with a leaf shape. I cut the fabric edges with zigzag scissors and, if your fabric doesn’t fray you can I leave the edges as it.
If you work with a fabric that fray easily, serger or make zigzag stitches around all the edges.
Here are de dimensions I used to cut the fabric pieces, dimensions are calculated to fit into the 15’/13′ planter. You can get a smaller planter size if you want to make a kid stool, but you will have to reduce the leaf shape size. Cut six identical pieces.
Sew the leaf pieces together, one edge with another to make a big cushion. The seams are apparent and will help to build the cactus shape.
Sew the last seam until the middle and leave the top part open.
Put the empty pillow cover into the planter, the no-sew part on top. Start filling with the cushion foam. As I did for the Tassel pouf, I used scrap fabric to fill the bottom part of the Cactus. It’s cheaper and heavier than the foam. Put enough foam so no-one stay stuck in the planter when seated on it!
Close the opening with a few hand stitches. Make some felt flowers and sew them on it. I made the petals with pink felt and added yellow embroidery thread to make the flower center. Then I sewed the flowers with the cactus.
That’s is! Easy and fun! Now you can sit on your cactus!

I forgot to take pictures of how I made the cactus flowers, sorry! Cut 3 felt circles, one big, one medium and one small. Cut a star shape in each circle. Place them on top of each other and sew the center with embroidery thread. Knot the threads together to make the flower center. Stich the flowers on the cactus.
Have fun crafting!
