Gather Your Materials
To begin crafting your custom designer table lamp, the first step is to gather all the materials you will need for this project.
- Glass Ball
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Glue gun
- Paint
- Brush
- LED light
You can find affordable glass ball options at your local hardware stores or online retailers to stay within your budget. For extra fun you can use one of these colored ones.
Additionally, consider repurposing items you already have at home like cardboard box and paint leftover to add a personal touch to your design.
Once you have all your materials ready, you can move on to creating the lamp base.
Create the Table Lamp DIY Base
Now that you have all your materials ready, it’s time to get creative and craft your own unique lamp base.
I used a ball light that I took off when we renovated the bathroom.
Take a piece of cardboard and cut a long strip in it to make the base of the lamp. Roll the cardboard strip on itself to make a cylinder. Add glue several times while rolling so the cardboard base stay in place.
The width of the strip will depend of the height of the lamp you want to make.
To give you an idea, the cardboard piece I used is 9 cm width, the final table lamp is 28 cm height (bulb included).
Keep making the cardboard base until the cylinder is slightly wider than the led lamp you plan to use.
Cut a second piece of cardboard long enough to roll it around the cylinder, and high enough to hide the led light and hold the base of the glass ball.
As exemple, my second cardboard piece is 6 cm higher than the cylinder base.
Check the dimension before gluing. Once all is working, wrap the cardboard around the base and glue.
Check that the led light fit in the base and also that the base of the glass bulb hold perfectly into it.
Decorate and Customize
Now that you have crafted your unique lamp base, it’s time to add your personal touch with some decorative elements.
I choose to cover the lamp base with a layer of corrugated cardboard. It’s simple and it give the lamp base a modern fluted look.
Then I apply two coats of a lovely pink acrylic paint.
To customize the lamp base, the possibilities are endless. Consider adding intricate designs, or even attaching ribbons or beads for a more whimsical look. You can also customize your lamp with accessories like tassels, or even a personalized monogram. You can cover the base with a patterned paper or painting the in a bright color.
Have fun experimenting and creating a designer table lamp DIY that perfectly suits your style and space. Once you’re satisfied with the decoration and customization, it’s time to move on to adding the LED light.
Add the LED Light
LED lights are a fantastic choice for your designer table lamp as they are energy-efficient, long-lasting, and come in a variety of colors and brightness levels.
Simply slide the LED light fixture inside your lamp base, then place the glass ball ensuring it is securely in place.
