How to make a Christmas gingerbread village with cardboard

How to make a christmas ginger house decor with cardboard

Creating a festive gingerbread village using cardboard is a fun and imaginative project that can bring a lot of holiday cheer to your home.

You can easily transform simple cardboard pieces into delightful little houses, shops, and other festive structures.

I changed my faux fireplace decor several times this year, and I finally decided we need a Christmas village for the holiday season.

So I grab a cardboard box and made some cute gingerbread houses. I think it looks even cuter with the lights on the back. What do you think?

It’s super simple to make and you only need a few supplies:

Grab your cardboard box and open it to have a flat surface.

On the back draw, some house shapes with windows and doors. It doesn’t need to be perfect, just draw different roof shapes and different house sizes.

Using scissors cut following the marks to create your little village. Use the cutter to cut out the windows and door openings.

Take the nicest side of the cardboard and decorate your gingerbread houses with white paint.

You can draw stones, bricks, roof tile, wreath…anything that will make your village looks pretty. I used white acrylic paint, but you can also work with a white marker.

When I was crafting my little village, my daughter decided she wanted her own gingerbread house. She grabs a cardboard box and instead of paint, she used white chalk to draw on her box! It works pretty well and it’s definitely a great mess-less option if you want to make this craft with your kids. I didn’t have any at home but these are also a good option.

Once the paint is dry, flip your cardboard piece and glue tracing paper on the back. The paper needs to cover all the windows and door openings.

You can glue a big piece of tracing paper on the back or cut out small squares to cover every opening…do what’s easier for you.

To have your village standing on itself, cut small triangles in the cardboard leftover and glue them on the back to hold the village.

Your gingerbread village will look even cuter with some lighting. You can place a cord light or small LED candle on the back of the houses.

Look how cute you can turn a plain piece of cardboard! I love it!

Don’t you think paper decors are the best for the holiday season? They are so easy to make and budget-friendly. I have a few more easy Christmas crafts that you will enjoy as:

Just wanted to say this is adorable and shows off your talents. A great adult or child project considering the low cost of materials. Especially if a child uses chalk as you suggested. Enjoyed your website. Thanks for sharing.
