Gather your Materials

Gather all the materials you need to create those fun egg carton decorations.

This project is perfect for putting those yarn scraps to good use! Feel free to mix and match any colors that catch your eye. Just a tip: choosing two colors that really stand out against each other will make your ornament pop even more.

Using thicker yarn works wonders, and I love the feel of soft, fluffy velvet yarn. Here are the colors I went with:

How to make Egg Carton Christmas Ornaments

Now that you’ve gathered all the supplies, it’s time to start making those ornaments

1. Start by cutting out two pyramid shapes from an egg carton, making sure to trim the bottom edges neatly for a clean finish.

2. Next, take some hot glue and apply it along one edge of one of the pyramid pieces, then press the two pieces together to form your ornament.

3. Cut two lengths of yarn and secure both ends at the top of the pyramid with a dab of hot glue.

4. Coat the entire ornament with white glue and begin wrapping the yarn around it, ensuring that you cover every inch of the surface.

5. After you’ve wrapped the yarn completely around the ornament, snip off the excess length.

6. To create a way to hang your ornament, cut a piece of string, fold it into a loop, and tie the ends together in a knot to secure it.

7. Take a wooden bead and pass the string loop through it, adding a bit of glue to keep the string in place within the bead’s hole. Trim any leftover string for a clean look.

8. Glue the bead with the string to the top of your ornament.

9. For an extra decorative touch, glue another bead to the bottom of the ornament.

Feel free to get creative and make as many ornaments as you want, experimenting with different yarn colors for a unique look!
