For those who love crafting seasonal decorations, this DIY paper house craft is a fun Halloween activity. While I usually shy away from anything too spooky and prefer cute decorations, I think this haunted village has a delightful charm to it!
I made the paper house template awhile ago to create Christmas decor. I realized that using black paper for the houses and adding a few trees will make a cool haunted city for Halloween.
The template includes 5 different houses designs and a step by step tutorial.
It’s an instant download which means as soon as you complete your purchase you can download and print the files.
It’s a super easy paper craft to make. You can grab the template in my shop.
To complete the village I also show below you how to make some spooky trees. It’s a fun DIY to make in family, if you have teens kids they will likely enjoy making this indoor Halloween craft.
The cuts are pretty simple and you can do it all with a pair of scissors and a cutter, no need of any Cricut or silhouette machine.
As I said you can also use the same house model for Christmas. If you want to see how the snowy Christmas village turns out, you can read my post HERE. I also show you how to make paper pine trees.
Let’s start crafting our haunted Halloween village!

The material you will need to make your paper houses:
- Black Cardstock
- The paper house template
- Scissors
- Cutter
- Glue stick
- paper clips
- LED tea candles
- Black and brown pipe cleaners (to make the trees)
As you can imagine it won’t work to print the house template on black sheets. So you first will print them on regular white paper, then place the template on top of your black sheet and attach them both with paper clips.
Start by cutting the external lines, move the paper clips while you cut, and replace them on the shape of the house. As the template will be perfectly positioned to make internal cuts.
Using a cutter and a ruler, cut out the window and the door shapes. Cut following solid lines only, the dotted lines are for folds.
Both shapes are still attached with paper clips, make the folds following the dotted lines to give the house it’s shape.
Remove the template, add some glue on the flaps, and put your house together. The houses have walls and roofs but no floor, so you can easily put LED tea candles in them!
And done, you just made your first paper house! Let’s do some more, have fun mixing the different types of houses. Grab the template in my shop!
To make the village a little spooky, let’s add some death trees! Take 5 pipe cleaners, I mixed brown and black but color choice is up to you!
Fold the pipe cleaners in the middle and cut them all. So you have now 10 small pieces.
Twist the pipe cleaners on themselves on about 1 1/2 in. to make the tree trunk. Left about 1 in. of unwrapped pipe cleaner on one side to make the roots.
Fold them to make a base that will keep your tree stand.
Fold the branches at unusual angles to give the tree a weird look.
And done! It takes you less than a minute to make a spooky tree, let’s add some more!

I display my Halloween village on my faux fireplace as it’s one of the only places out of reach of my toddler. I added some small white pebbles and glue a paper circle on the wall to figure a full moon.
We light up the LED tea candle at night, the kids love it! My son added some matchbox cars into the decor…he pointed us out that he took very good care to add only black cars so it fits into the Halloween village!
